Me llamo Shaista Hasham and I am still learning Spanish!
I am in my 4th year of Natural Sciences, also pursuing two minors, one in Health and Society, and the other in Religious Studies.
I will be a part of the wonderful group of people heading to Costa Rica (Chira Island) this May. This is my first time blogging, so I’m a little nervous about it, but I think it is important to share my experiences with the world 🙂
I am really excited to be living with a host family that speaks only Spanish! (YIKES!) but I’m looking forward to learning a lot more Spanish in these two weeks than ever before in my life! 🙂 I am a little nervous about the bugs – I’ve been afraid of cockroaches for years! I’m sure the children will get a kick out of watching me jump on tables and chairs to avoid the crawling creepers, but at the same time, it’s high time I get over this fear!
I’m looking forward to learning more about how communities come together to work for each other. I am fascinated to see how individual sacrifices can lead to the betterment of a community, where the individual themselves also benefit. It is always wonderful to watch individual people come together to create something each one of them could not do alone 🙂
I have always been interested in issues of poverty and social justice. There are many difficult questions to ask, someone of them often left unanswered. I am hoping to start a discussion with the world, to spread awareness about what each and everyone of us can do to make this world a better place 🙂
Please join me in my journey to Chira Island, Costa Rica, and let us work together to be the best we can be, to make this world a better place 🙂
Pura Vida!! ❤
