Hey, I’m Jill

Hey everyone, I’m Jillian Wingerter and I’m one of twelve lucky students going to the Calgary Serves Canada rebuilding project in New Orleans. I used to love volunteering in high school but haven’t done as much while at university so I’m trying to get back into it. I joined this particular project because I find what has happened in New Orleans shocking and very interesting. The United States is usually seen as a very well off country, but you wouldn’t know that from pictures of the devastation that remains in New Orleans, over five years later!

A lot of people have heard about the mistakes that were made right after Hurricane Katrina hit, but my goal is too learn more about what is being done now to rebuild. I would also like to learn about what strategies have and haven’t worked in New Orleans. I am looking forward to sharing my experiences over the next week along with what I learn from them.

I hope you all enjoy it!
