Hi, I’m Elyse.

Hi there, my name’s Elyse Merriman, and I’m taking part in Calgary Serves Canada: Rebuilding New Orleans project this reading break.  I’m a fifth year international relations major with an interest in anything that has to do with volunteering, service learning, and new experiences to help me gain more insight into the world.  I also love travel and exploring new places, so this project is ideal for someone like me 🙂

One of the reasons I wanted to go to New Orleans is that I’ve always been interested in its history and its reputation as being a lively, vibrant city.  Another reason is that I’ve never done any work involving the politics of disaster or seen how a natural disaster can effect a region as I’ve been fortunate enough to never have a natural disaster directly affect my life.  I’ve been trying to not think too much about what the trip is going to be like because I want to be able to go in with a clean slate and be open to everything that we have in store for us this upcoming week.  I can’t wait to be able to share my experience with the readers of this blog.

Until you read again,
